This was one of my favorite proposal sessions ever- the expressions on her face are PRICELESS. You can feel the joy radiating out of the 2 of them! I also loved that they are both passionate dancers- it truly showed in the photos at the end!  Congrats again to Kohsuke and Alex!

Tokyo Vacation Photographer: A Fun and Funky Family Explores Harajuku, Shibuya, and Omotesando

This family booked me for a 2 hour shoot so we could explore Omotesando, Harajuku, and Shibuya!  I LOVED how FUN and OPEN to doing things!  I really enjoy seeing my clients being WOWed by things in Japan- whether it’s the hip store fronts, cute pet shops, cotton candy and desserts everywhere, hall of mirrors, LINE characters, etc!  I also LOVE it when my clients are very intentional with what they wear- the father and son were wearing Pokemon shirts, and it was cool that they brought some funky sunglasses to take photos with!  So creative and adds so much character to the photos!  Halfway during the shoot the storm clouds came and it started to POUR… They got a bit wet but we still had fun and got some great shots!

Tokyo Family Vacation Photographer: Jumping, Running, and Laughing in Shibuya

I couldn’t have asked for a more fun and silly family to photograph in Shibuya! Their energy totally matched the vibe of Shibuya- as you can see from the photos they were running and jumping around everywhere- and making silly faces all the time! I could tell that their daughter has so much fun being around her parents! #parentgoals

Tokyo Engagement Photographer: A Proposal at Shiba Koen

Guillaume contacted me the day before he planned to propose and we communicated via Whatsapp to figure out these last minute details for this proposal + engagement shoot!  This couple was really lucky to have such amazing weather in Tokyo… the next day it was pouring rain.  His fiancee truly was surprised by the proposal, and of course SHE SAID YES! You can tell in the photos that she was very happy and kept giggling and laughing since she was so surprised. I really enjoyed capturing that emotion!

Tokyo Vacation Photographer: Annie Explores Shibuya

Annie was traveling through Japan by herself and wanted to get some photos in Shibuya so that way not all of her photos would be “selfies.”  I love that she is so adventurous and travels by herself and wanted to be able to remember her trip this way!  She was fun to hangout with and was so open to doing a bunch of fun things in Shibuya, including- talking to robots, going to the Purikura photobooths, going to the arcade, and checking out some of the fun stores!

Note: This was a photoshoot I did for Flytographer.

Tokyo Vacation Photographer: An Evening in Shibuya

This couple was in Tokyo for vacation and they wanted some photos in Shibuya at night! I am so glad I had this opportunity to photograph them- they were fun, silly, and I loved their style! I really like how she chose bright colors to wear to stand out against the sea of black/gray/neutral colors. This couple really stood out among the crowd.  Besides getting some awesome photos in between the crowds and the lights, we took some fun photos with vending machines and robots as well. Shibuya can be a hectic area to photograph in but it is definitely one of the most fun!

Enjoy!

Tokyo Tourist Photographer: The Ogawa Family explores Meiji Shrine and Harajuku

Taking photos for the Ogawas was a great experience. Meiji Shrine is one of the top sites in Tokyo, and their energetic daughter enjoyed running around everywhere, exploring the area! I enjoyed chasing after her, capturing her playful attitude and different expressions.  It started to rain, so we headed toward Harajuku. We ended up getting caught in the middle of a dance festival! As hectic as it was, it was amazing to see so many people dressed in bright, traditional clothing while the Ogawas enjoyed some mango shaved ice! I love capturing families enjoying a day out in Tokyo. I can’t wait to take more photos in this city!

Tobin & Inmi

I’ve been to NYC a handful of times, and I never get tired of it.  Last month was my first time going with my toddler though so the experience was a bit different!  Nonetheless, we had a great time visiting our friends, Tobin and Inmi, who eagerly show us around every time. Tobin was my best friend at UCSD- our love for hip hop dance and spontaneous fun events made us friends quickly. Even though I’ve known Inmi for 2 years, she is one of the kindest, sweetest, and most gentle people I know.  Her voice is so calm and soothing, and I am inspired by her passion for dance as well!

I snapped a few photos of them during our 2 day visit. I loved the fall weather in NYC, it was so nice to get away from the humidity of the Dominican Republic!

S+J: Cambodia Engagement, Part 1

I’ve decided to split these engagement photos into 2 parts.

Part 1 will be photos that show a bit of Phnom Penh lifestyle-— Motorcycles. Ciclos. Markets. Tropical Fruits. Independence Monument. Street Food. We wanted to take photos at the Royal Palace but unfortunately the streets were closed. I love all the bright colors in these locations we went to so I tried to keep these photos vibrant as well 😉 When we started to take the motorcycle photos it started to rain, so some of the photos came out unclear since water droplets fell on my lens 🙁 But besides that, this was such a fun shoot to do!

Part 2 will be focused more on the love between S+J 😉

I met S on my 2nd day here in Phnom Penh, and have had the privilege of seeing him pursue miss J. I’m happy to say that I helped him with his little plot to ask her to be his girlfriend! And now they will be getting married next year!

Trains, Escalators, and Malls {Bangkok, Thailand}

Sorry if you were expecting to see pictures of the temples and touristy things of Thailand- you’re not going to see any here!

Last month we visited Bangkok for a work trip. This was my 6th time in Bangkok (2 times for work, 2 times as a tourist, and once just for transit), so I feel like I have seen most of the touristy things that I want to see. This time around, we stayed near the malls, and most of my trip here was spent enjoying the malls and food!!! Especially Japanese food and desserts! We visited a different mall everyday, including: MBK, Paragon, Siam Square, Terminal 21, Central World, and Central Chidlom.

I didn’t bring my camera out everyday since I was just at the mall a lot, but here are my photos from practicing taking city photos. We were on escalators a lot and skytrains too, and I learned that Bangkok is not stroller friendly! Some of the BTS stations don’t even have an elevator or escalator and we would have to carry up baby+stroller up and down stairs. I did this on my own one day and it was just tiring!

Melaka by Night: Flashy Flashing Trishaws + my favorite wall

Flashing neon lights and loud dance music thumping. No, this is not a club in Melaka. It is a trishaw!

OK I know this gaudy bicycle is such a tourist trap type of transport, but still.. I was intrigued and did end up riding one.

These bikes also provided good practice for me to take night photos and photos of moving lights, and flashing lights. Unfortunately, I have not taken any classes on night photography so again I was challenged. Let me know if you have any tips for night photography, or photographing moving lights!

I tried taking photos of both still and moving trishaws. With the still shots, I practiced different shutter speeds to get different amounts of brightness for the lights. With the moving shots, I tried to get photos that had more of that “blurry” moving look (yes I did that on purpose!). OK these shots are super amateur but I hope you enjoy!

Melaka by Day: Architecture and Shadows {Malaysia}

I visited Melaka for the first time in May. We spent 1 day there, and although it was quite a charming city, I think 1 day was just enough time for sightseeing.  Melaka is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and is known for the architecture and culture since there is British, Dutch, Portuguese, Chinese, and Malay influences.

While shooting around Melaka, most of my photos from Melaka are of buildings and alleys. I loved walking down the streets of Melaka but it was challenging for me to capture the charm of the city on the camera.

The photos below are mostly of Jonker Street and St. Paul’s Church.  We were at the church at about 10am and it was ridiculously hot- but the great thing was the way the sun cast shadows everywhere around the church. That is why I made the photos black and white- so you could see the shadows and all pay more attention to the different shapes. I like how black and white photography gets you to notice more of the lines and geometry of the photo.

Tudor Tudor Tanah Rata {Cameron Highlands, Malaysia}

When you are in the Cameron Highlands, you can almost believe that you are not in Asia! Well, except for the fact that there are Asian people everywhere- haha.  What I mean is the ambiance makes you feel like you could be in a little European town. This is because the weather is cool, and the architecture of many of the buildings are Tudor.

While sorting through my photos of Cameron Highlands, I noticed that many of them captured this architecture. I chose a couple of photos from Tanah Rata town so you can understand this feeling of being in a small European town. In the background of all of them you’ll notice some of the black and white geometric shapes of the Tudor architecture that can be found all over the Cameron Highlands.

Also, these photos were taken on Mother’s Day, so of course we took a few mother+daughter and family photos. It was such a beautiful, relaxing, peaceful, and refreshing time in the highlands!!!

Mossy Forest, Malaysia

The Misty Magical Mossy Forest {Cameron Highlands, Malaysia}

The Mossy Forest is something straight out of an eerie fairytale… or Lord of the Rings. This forest can be found on the top of Mount Brinchang in the Cameron Highlands. The tall trees are covered in green moss, and when you walk inside the forest, it is like you are walking inside of a cloud- it is misty all around you. I loved taking photos inside because of the way the sunlight seeped through the cloudy mist and onto the trail… it was MAGICAL.

We went inside the forest with a guide, and only stayed for about 45 minutes. Our guide was telling us how it is dangerous to go hiking inside this forest because people get lost (usually adventurous Europeans). I believe he said in just the past few months there were 6 Europeans who were missing lost but thank God they were found in 2 days!

One editing tip I learned is using vignettes to help bring focus and drama into my photos. I am using vignettes in almost all of the photos below.

This is the road we drove up to arrive at the entrance of the Mossy Forest.

Jungle Walk to Robinson Falls {Cameron Highlands, Malaysia}

I love hiking!!  Even though I’ve been to the Cameron Highlands before, I had never done a hike there. Tony and I decided to check out Robinson Falls, since it wasn’t supposed to be too difficult of a hike (we had baby with us so we didn’t want to do anything too strenuous). The weather was warm and cloudy. It looked like it could rain at any moment.

Cameron Highlands, Malaysia

Rolling Tea Hills and Majestic Clouds.

For our most recent holiday, we went to Malaysia! This was my 4th time in Malaysia… just cuz I love it there.  We decided to go to Cameron Highlands, even though I have been there before, because of the cool weather (it is similar to California) and also because Tony had never been there before.

The Cameron Highlands are filled with beautiful, green, rolling hills of tea. On top of that, the clouds there are BREATHTAKING. Most of the pictures I took below try to capture the beautiful sky and the land.

A view of one of the valleys. This photo has not been edited.
