Hello!

My name is Nathalie April and I grew up in California. I provide destination photography services in Tokyo, Japan.

I love how each year- each month- each day- each second- can hold SO many simple yet beautiful and meaningful moments. These moments are fleeting, and are something to be cherished. I love how photos can seize that precious memory, and with it capture an emotion, a thought, and the essence of whoever or whatever is in that photo. It is a beautiful glimpse of the past which can be reflected upon and enjoyed in the future.

When I take photos of people I want to capture both joyful moments with people smiling and laughing, as well as tender, quiet moments like savoring a sweet hug! My style is a mix of photojournalistic, artistic, and portrait. I enjoy taking photos in natural light.

I am a nomad, always in between one country and another, but if we are ever in the same city I would love to be able to take photos for you and help you capture that special moment!

Many people who know me know that I am a VERY nostalgic and sentimental person who loves to keep track of memories and capture moments. For example…

1) I’ve been writing in a journal for about 20 years now
2) As a 1st anniversary gift to my boyfriend (now husband) when we were 17, I wrote down a 1-line memory from each time I saw him since I met him and put it in a little origami star, and put them all in a jar, in which I wrote (with white-out)- “I remember… it’s in the stars” (So cheesy I know!)
3) As a graduation gift to 15 of my high school friends I made them a VHS tape compiling high school memories (I carried my video camera with me since junior year of high school!)
4) I have a journal for my daughter where I insert polaroid photos and write letters to her so she can read it when she is older and realize how much I love her
5) I love receiving cards… I never throw cards away and keep them in a special drawer in my room for safekeeping 😉
6) In honor of knowing each other half of our lives, I gave my husband a “time capsule”- a little box where we could put a memory from each year we’ve known each other and then open it 15 years from now
7) I’m the person that puts together slideshows of photos for special events (and I enjoy doing it!)
8) I like to CELEBRATE! My hubby and I still remember the day we 1st met, the day we started dating, the day we 1st kissed, the day we got engaged (all on top of our wedding anniversary). We had a little “100 days” party for my daughter. Whether it is a birthday or a bon voyage or an anniversary, I think there is always reason to celebrate!

Favorite foods: Brunch, Mochi, Boba, Japanese/Italian food, and my Lola’s home-cooked Sinigang
Pet peeves: Seeing trash at the beach/in nature, wasted food
Favorite books:Redeeming Love, Mark of the Lion, the Bible
Favorite activities:
Dancing, Hiking, Backpacking, Camping, Skiing, Clothes-swapping, Board games/game nights! I love to travel… after having visited 41 countries and 6 territories, Trip Advisor tells me I have only seen 23% of the world.  There are so many cultures and places that I still want to experience!
High school yearbook quote: “The moment may be temporary, but the memory will last forever.”
